This list assumes you are forgoing legs for the non set piece. Four piece 245 requires 4x Trophies and 240 emblems total. See the bottom of this thread for an alternate configuration using 1 extra trophy + 75 emblems to use the Elemental set helm with the Restoration legs. (note that if you off-spec Elemental, and consider the cross-over of the helm a benefit, that the meta gem could pose an issue if you're trying to min/max. Credit: Neokarasu).

The Elemental set helm as the off-piece will provide a substantial amount of extra crit and slightly more haste in the 245 version with a loss of 45 MP5. The 258 setup using the Restoration helm will provide a potentially higher total haste since it provides 1 extra socket on the Legguards of Concealed Hatred/Leggings of the Awakening (the 245 version does not have 3 sockets).

By using the Leggings of the Awakening with the Restoration set helm you are provided a good amount of extra crit along with having the extra socket and it does not require the additional burden of acquiring 75 extra emblems as well as an extra trophy. If your Elemental shaman and Boomkin do not need these, it may be a good setup to go after.

Wristwraps of Cloudy Omen (Lord Jaraxxus 25) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47441)

Wristwraps of Cloudy Omen are a decent swap in if you're doing heavy tank healing. Take them if they drop.

Hands

Thrall's Handguards of Triumph (258) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48306)

Thrall's Handguards of Triumph (245) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48301)

Waist

Belt of the Fallen Wyrm (Razorscale) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45151)

Belt of the Ice Burrower (Northrend Beasts) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=46991)

Belt of the Ice Burrower is another tank healing item that I would prefer to swap in.

Icehowl Cinch (Icehowl 10H) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47921)

Yes, it has 61 hit rating, but it can also hit a maximum value of 127 haste, compared to the 82 of the Fallen Wyrm. If you think sacrificing crit or MP5 is worth the addition of useless hit (well, maybe your hexes might miss less) then it might be worth grabbing if no DPS classes need. Since it's 10H, this isn't too outlandish.

Belt of Pale Thorns (Eydis Darkbane 25H) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47469)

Another option for maximizing haste, only with more spell power and slightly less haste than the Cinch.

Legs

Legguards of Concealed Hatred (258) (Faction Champions) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47087)

Leggings of Concealed Hatred (245) (Faction Champions) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47289)

Leggings of the Awakening (258) (Anub'Arak - Heroic) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47479)

Feet

Ring [1]

Circle of the Darkmender 258 (Lord Jaraxxus) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47439)

Ring [2]

Starshine Circle (Algalon 25 Quest) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45614)

Circle of the Darkmender 245 (Lord Jaraxxus) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47278)

Trinket [1]

Solace of the Fallen 258 (Lord Jaraxxus) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47432)

Trinket [2]

Solace of the Fallen 245 (Lord Jaraxxus) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47271)

Weapon

Heartsmasher (Tribute chest 10) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48693)

Misery's End (Anub'arak 25) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47193)

Shield

Bastion of Resolve (Faction Champions) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47448)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alternatively you could use the Elem (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48328)ental (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48333) set helm (or Helmet of the Crypt Lord [Anub'Arak 10H]) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47965) and the Resto (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48308)ration (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48303) set legs. This requires 315 emblems and 5 trophies for 245, or 5x Regalia of the Grand Protector for 258.

The combined totals for each configuration of helm/legs is:

ilevel 258

Using the Legguards of Concealed Hatred as the off-piece

86 haste
88 crit
302 spell power
93 MP5
4 gem slots + meta

All of your BiS lists seem to presuppose we're using 4pc. I don't think that needs to be the case (or is even what is best to do).

Using a blank level 80 resto shaman on chardev (no enchants, gems, other gear) to compare 4pc versus 2pc and other BiS for helm, shoulders, chest, hands (since BiS list I used the 258 tier for everything):
Resto 4pc:
9.36% crit
230 haste
3 blue sockets
1 yellow socket
1 red socket

2pc 258 ele (helm and shoulders), 2pc resto (chest and gloves):
10.93% crit
334 haste
2 blue sockets
2 yellow sockets
1 red socket

Lose:
3.43 % crit to CH
84mp5

Gain:
1.57% crit to all spells
104 haste
1 yellow socket

Honestly by the time you're fully BiS using 258 tokens, your crit is going to be high enough that a loss of ~3.5% crit to CH isn't a big deal. The gain of crit to all other spells, gain of static haste, gain of a yellow socket will allow for more SP gemming as well.

It's more a consideration of whether or not the mp5 loss is worth it. I think it is. I am generally fine on mana now without complete BiS, and as my gear goes up it'll only get better (and getting dual Solace trinkets).

I go under the assumption that I wont see that many 258 regalia's before Icecrown. It's a terrible system the way they have it implemented with the time-line they are releasing 3.3. Even if I were able to eventually get multiple pieces of 258 set, I still look at what's realistic in the near future. I did four piece 245 in one clear by taking 4 trophies in a row because I was on the fence about losing the 8.5 four piece. That is a realistic upgrade to get relatively quickly, where 258 is not.

Fusion does a system where nobody gets two regalia until everyone has gotten one. I don't see myself getting more than one before Icecrown hits to be honest, maybe two. I try to look at what I can get now, rather than weeks or months from now.

But what you list is always an option, and I appreciate you pointing it out. Just when I think I have this work in progress finished, I find something I missed, so I'm happy to be corrected or given options that I didn't think about. If people have access to what you laid out, then sure, I totally agree.

I'm happy with the 4 piece tier 9 for the moment though, with what limited time I've had it. I haven't had a chance to do Twin Valks with it yet, and I had originally planned to swap back to my 8.5 for it this coming reset, but I'm going to give the T9 a shot. Mimiron trash last Thursday gave me short burst samples, but I was able to do higher HPS with the tier 9 in that brief time, so I'm optimistic the T9 can do better. The MP5 return with the 5% crit has certainly been noticeable, but it's overkill so that's moot anyway.

I'd also add that I haven't done the math on doing what you propose with 245 pieces, so it may also be viable as well.

What pushed me over the fence on deciding to jump to T9 was the fact that the increases in stats aside from the set bonus affected all my spells, and I was willing to cling to an old tier for one spell I cast about 40% of the time over a full clear of an instance.

I also have to work my gear around my off-set as Elemental, so running two-piece from both specs helps me, making what you say even more attractive.

Here, to make it easier for you. =)

Just helm and shoulders:
Crypt Lord and Spirit Walker:
7.59% crit
109 haste
2 yellow sockets
1 red socket

Crypt Lord and Glacial Wilds:
7.5% crit
119 haste
2 blue sockets
1 yellow socket

Crypt Lord and 245 Ele tier:
7.34% crit
127 haste
1 blue socket
1 yellow socket

Resto helm and shoulders (245 version):
5.71% crit
59 haste
2 blue sockets
74mp5

So in general it's a gain of
~1.8% crit to all spells
50-68 haste
extra socket with non tier shoulder options
yellow socket in helm

Loss of
74mp5
3.2% crit to CH

Edit: Too lazy to actually do the math atm, but the 245 ele helm is probably better than the Crypt Lord. However most of us turned our trophies in for resto helm so we'd have to either grab another trophy or just use Crypt Lord. Keep in mind if you go ele offspec often, going to need two versions of ele helm!

I didn't even think about this until someone else said it but the new Ele relic is actually pretty good for Resto also.

Yeah, I think I can manage to keep that buff up easily. I'll have it for Elemental anyway so I'll give it a shot.
