So there is obviously huge outrage about the change they stated was 'intended' for the TBC release. But of course, they didn't push it out until now, 8 months after TBC...

This rogue was in BT on the PTR with his guild testing the changes to encounters and noted the following:

If it has been planned for a while, why wasn't the community notified well in advance for us to test on PTR, and why wouldn't it just be implemented with your regular patch schedule? Last night in Black Temple, we noticed a severe dps drop from our combat rogues as a result of this nerf. This is a huge nerf, I encourage you to pass the information in this link below to the devs when and if at all possible Neth.

I understand why the nerf was put in for pvp, but with it came severe negative traverse effects for us in PvE. Our guild is already talking about subbing rogues out for other forms of dps on raids ;_;

The response he got from Neth was:

This change was something that was intended to have been implemented when the Burning Crusade was put in along with all the other changes that came with BC. We had thought we had 'fixed' this before, but kept having an issue getting it to work as it was intended. It is now corrected so that it is working as we intended it to at the release of the Burning Crusade.

That said, this was done simply to modify the amount of dps that melee classes were able to do with it. This wasn't a spur of the moment change, but something that had been planned for awhile. This does not negate any plans or discussion that was held during BlizzCon like some seem to feel. There are positive changes for Shaman coming as we said.

So, it seems like Melee DPS classes are getting a major shaft, again?

No. It's a minor dps drop for rogues, more so for hamstring spamming warriors.

If/when they try to nerf haste though, we will have an issue.

It really only hurts MS warriors, this makes or breaks their raid viability

i wonder how the damage from GoA + Flametongue totem compares to WF now

It will definately be lower for warriors due to the rage generation of Windfury. I think Windfury will still do better for a sword rogue, but dagger rogues were already argueably "ahead" with GoA before.. and likely are seeing more benefit from GoA now. For what its worth, I'm nearly 100% certain that rogues benefit more from use of deadly poison than flametongue as well... Flametongue works out to a 20-30 DPS increase total for most weapons if you have no +damage from gear.

FYI those numbers on that website that howi posted can't be trusted. Whoever put that together used a sample size of about 250 swings it seems. Any fool who took basic statistics knows a sample size that small is not sufficient for statistical analysis.

Show me parses with 10,000+ swings and I'll go with the results.

Oh by the way, the windfury nerf is already live, it was a hotfix.

Yeah, TLR and I have been talking about it. We are seeing a slight drop, but it's not earth shattering.

The sword spec nerf coming up will have more of an impact imo.
